The short version

The midi crossword is a free daily puzzle sized between the mini and the full crossword. No account, no paywall, a fresh grid every day that resets at midnight US Eastern. Play today’s midi crossword.

01 How the daily midi crossword works

A midi is the crossword size between the mini and the full daily grid, enough room for some clever longer answers, still small enough to finish over a coffee. Ours ramps like a good crossword week: 7x7 from Monday through Thursday, 8x8 on Friday and Saturday, and a 9x9 finale on Sunday. Tap a square and type; tap again to switch between Across and Down. The bar up top shows your active clue, and the arrow keys or the clue lists move you around the grid.

The midi is timed, and the clock is honest: nothing starts until you press Start, you can pause whenever life interrupts, and the board hides while paused. Stuck on a letter? Check flags anything wrong so you can course correct, and Reveal fills the whole grid if you’d rather see the answer and move on.

02 Free, and new every day

Like every game here, the daily midi crossword is free, needs no account, and runs on your phone or desktop with nothing to download. One fresh grid each day, the same puzzle for everyone, resetting at midnight US Eastern. When you finish, the share card carries your solve time and never spells out an answer.

03 A free alternative to the NYT Midi

The midi format took off when the New York Times added a Midi crossword behind its Games subscription. If you want that just-right midsize solve without the paywall, this is built for exactly that.
