The short version
One fresh set of original games every day, free to play, no account required. A new edition drops at midnight Eastern. Each game keeps its own streak: the number of days in a row you’ve solved that game. Everything below just says that more carefully.
01 The basics
Greatest Games is a library of original daily puzzle games published under one masthead. Every day we print a fresh edition — a small lineup of self-contained games you can finish over a coffee. You play today’s set, you’re done, and there’s a new one tomorrow. No endless feed, no dark patterns.
Every game refreshes at midnight US Eastern time. “Today” on the site always means the live Eastern calendar day, so the lineup rolls over at the same moment for everyone, wherever you are.
No. Every game is free to play with no sign-up. If you’d like your streak and stats to follow you between devices, you can create a free account — but it’s entirely optional.
The daily games are free. We may offer an All Access tier with extras down the line, but the core “one new game a day” experience stays free.
02 Streaks & solves
A game counts as solved when you reach the win state for that day’s puzzle — you guess the answer within the allowed attempts. A loss (running out of guesses, or giving up) does not count as a solve, though we still record that you played. Each game tracks its own solves independently: solving Angler and Wordly on the same day counts as two solves, one for each game.
Each game keeps its own streak — there isn’t one combined streak across the whole lineup. A game’s streak is the number of days in a row you’ve solved that game: solve it today, having solved it yesterday, and the streak grows by one. Days are counted as calendar days on US Eastern time (America/New_York — UTC−5 in winter, UTC−4 during daylight saving), matching when editions drop.
A game’s streak resets to zero if you miss a day on that game, or if you play it but don’t solve it. To keep a streak alive you need to solve that same game again the next Eastern calendar day — a solve two or more days later starts a fresh streak at one.
A streak only advances on a completed solve — opening a game or running out of guesses won’t extend it, and a loss resets that game’s streak. Your in-progress game is saved for the rest of the day, so you can come back and finish it before the day rolls over.
Worth knowing
Because each game has its own streak, you can be on a long run in one game and just starting out in another. Building a streak in a game means coming back to that game day after day.
03 Accounts & syncing
On your device, in your browser’s local storage. That means your streak and stats live on whatever browser you played in. Clearing your browser data, switching devices, or playing in private/incognito mode will start you fresh.
Create a free account. Sign-in is passwordless — use Google, Apple, or an emailed magic link — and your stats then follow you wherever you sign in.
That’s the plan: when you create an account on a device where you’ve been playing, your local progress is meant to merge into your account rather than be thrown away. (Account-synced stats are rolling out — until then, local progress stays on the device it was made on.)
04 Sharing & spoilers
When you finish a game you can copy a spoiler-free result to share. It shows the date, an emoji grid (or a result line) of how your guesses went, and a link back to that day’s puzzle — never the answer itself. Your friends see how you did without seeing the solution.
No. We deliberately keep the solution out of every share. The only thing that travels is the colored or arrow grid showing your path to the answer, plus the link.
05 The archive
Yes. The archive holds previously published editions, and you can browse by month or jump to a specific date. Note that playing an older puzzle doesn’t change your current streak — streaks track the live daily run.
No — games are identified by date and never serve a future-dated puzzle. Each edition becomes playable the moment its day arrives at midnight ET, and not a minute before.
06 Subscriptions
The daily lineup is free for everyone. We’re building an All Access option for folks who want to support the work and unlock extras — you can see what’s offered on the subscribe page. The free daily games aren’t going anywhere.
07 Trouble & support
A quick refresh fixes most hiccups. If your streak or stats look off and you’re playing without an account, remember they’re stored per browser — private mode or cleared data will reset them. If something still seems broken, tell us; a screenshot helps a lot.
Please send it our way. We’d rather hear about a bad clue than have it sit there. Bugs, unfair puzzles, kind words — all welcome.
